Douglas Carswell has been MP for Harwich and Clacton since 2005. Prior to this he worked in the television and investment industries. Douglas co-authored 'The Plan: Twelve Months to Renew Britain' with MEP Daniel Hannan. Many of the ideas first outlined in this book have gone on to be adopted as Conservative policy. Douglas shot to prominence in 2009 when he brought about the removal of the Speaker, in the House of Commons for the first time in over 300 years.
