Ed Vaizey not only entertained a capacity crowd with his great sense of humour, but also having got just a whiff of an idea that a competition is emerging between speakers at the Curzon Supper Club (based on who can answer questions for the longest time!) Ed determined to win..

After a mammoth Q and A session covering a huge range of different issues he was duly crowned and applauded!

There's a small video clip below here which records Ed's early explorations of the breadth and diversity of his portfolio. However due to fading light, the later amusing exchanges will have to live on solely in the minds of those who attended the evening..

Thanks to all those who helped make this a great evening.
A capacity crowd turned-up for some great food and to hear Dale speak - drawing in many new attendees.

Following dinner, Iain spoke briefly for around 20 minutes sharing some amusing anecdotes and then took questions from the attendees. These questions were wide-ranging and covered lots of issues including economic issues and political leadership questions.

Iain was very direct and honest with his answers. Many attendees commented that his answers were refreshingly straight-forward and Iain later described the questions as 'particularly incisive' on his blog.

Iain's easy charm concealed a degree of personal tension on Thurday night as, whilst speaking to the assembled group, Iain repeatedly glanced at his Blackberry. He was awaiting news of the shortlist for selection as Parliamentary candidate for the Suffolk Coastal Constituency. Sadly the hoped for good news never arrived for Iain - lets hope he finds a constituency before the next general election. His skills, experience and good judgement would be a huge asset in the next Parliament.

Tim Dodds has written a brilliant review of the event here. And now local Councillor Stuart MacLeod has written about it also here.Robin Horsleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01140254059358636351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1605211559263130372.post-34398173494047624262009-12-26T19:52:00.009+00:002010-01-15T12:10:07.621+00:00Next Event Confirmed with Iain Dale on 28th January! This is something of a coup! Leading Conservative blogger and media commentator, Iain Dale has agreed to speak at the next Curzon Supper Club event at 7.30pm on Thursday 28th January at the Half Moon in Windlesham.

Iain is a highly sought after speaker - so we are very fortunate to have secured him for the evening.

Iain is the undisputed master of Conservative political blogging. His blog Iain Dale's Diary is read by over a million people each year! It combines extraordinary political insight with wit, warmth and no-nonsense opinion. Iain regularly appears on television on programmes such as Newsnight, Andrew Marr's Sunday morning show and a range of other political television and radio programmes.

Iain has spent almost his entire working life in Politics, having worked with numerous MPs. He ran David Davis's unsuccesful leadership campaign, stood for election himself in 2005 and is currently hoping to become a Prospective Parliamentary Candidate in the coming General Election.

The Curzon Supper Club event on December 13th with Daniel Kawzyinski MP was hailed as a great success by over 40 attendees.

The event was held at a new venue, the Half Moon Pub in Windlesham, for the first time. Landlord, Conrad Sturt and his team did a fantastic job and served up a superbly presented and cooked meal that won words of praise from everyone who attended.

Daniel spoke for approximately 20 minutes and then invited questions. The questions he answered were wide ranging and included subjects such as a European referendum, the state of the economy and the role of the media.

The last of these subjects prompted a wide-spread debate with Daniel and amongst the attendees.A first-time supper club attendee Melissa Lyon, who works for the BBC, started the debate by questioning Daniel about a future Conservative government's plans for the BBC. This and Daniel's answer prompted others to share their views and local resident Harry Turner, a previous Director of ITN, spoke eloquently on the subject of the role of independant media organisations.

Over dinner Daniel, who spent many of his early years in the local area, mentioned that one of the first jobs he had locally when he was a student was working at Cullens in Chobham! He phoned the following day to say how much he had enjoyed being back in the local area and speaking at the Curzon Supper Club.

Many thanks to Daniel for his warmth and energy! His Question and Answer session prompted so much discussion that he eventually spoke for well over an hour!Robin Horsleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01140254059358636351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1605211559263130372.post-63576432065262164022009-11-07T14:17:00.010+00:002009-11-17T21:50:23.873+00:00Daniel Kawczynski MP - Sunday 13th December 2009 Event AnnouncementI am absolutely delighted to announce that I have managed to secure Daniel Kawczynski MP as the speaker for our next event on Sunday 13th December - 7.30-10.30pm.

Daniel entered Parliament in 2005, and became widely known when he took Gordon Brown to task earlier this year for launching a smear campaign against the Polish Prime Minister!

Daniel's full profile is available here.

We also have a change of venue! - This event will be held at the Half Moon Pub, Church Road, Windlesham - there's a map here.

Tickets are available now! Daniel entered Parliament at the age of just 33 and was immediately recognisable, not just as one of the younger MPs in the house, but also as the tallest! At 6ft 8.5inches Daniel is thought to be the tallest Member of Parliament ever!

Daniel’s family came to Britain in 1940 following the invasion of Poland. Daniel was born in 1972 (his parents live locally in Chobham!), grew up in Surrey and studied Business Studies with French and Spanish at Stirling University, where he met his future wife, Kate. He then worked in the telecommunications industry for ten years before dedicating his life, full-time to Politics.

Daniel became widely recognised earlier this year when, to media acclaim, he took Gordon Brown to task for breaking diplomatic procedures by criticising members of political parties in Poland.

The incident arose shortly after David Cameron delivered on his promise to take the Conservative party out of the federalist EPP political grouping in the European Parliament. In customary style, Gordon Brown and the Labour party decided to start a smear campaign against other members of the new European political grouping that the Conservatives had formed. This strategy backfired spectacularly when, in so doing, they made a series of unfounded, baseless allegations against prominent Polish politicians, which threatened to cause a major diplomatic incident.

The clip below is from the ‘Daily Politics’ and shows Daniel taking Gordon Brown to task in the House of Commons:

In his spare time, Daniel spends as much time as possible with his daughter Alexis, enjoys gardening and playing golf. He is also rumoured to be writing a biography of Colonel Gaddafi. In October 2009, Kawczynski appeared on The Doha Debates as a delegate supporting the motion of "This house deplores the release of Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Al Megrahi" – so we can safely assume that Daniel’s motivation for his biography is not hero-worship!

Daniel’s constituency website is here: http://www.daniel4shrewsbury.co.uk
Robin Horsleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01140254059358636351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1605211559263130372.post-14171009498971734392009-10-22T13:45:00.000+01:002009-10-22T18:00:15.735+01:00Next Event - Sunday December 13thWe now have a provisional date for the next Curzon Supper Club event:

Sunday December 13th, 2009.

Venue and Speaker details are in the process of being finalised.

More information soon!
Robin Horsleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01140254059358636351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1605211559263130372.post-48847302316486666562009-10-22T13:30:00.001+01:002009-11-07T14:29:56.702+00:00EventsThis section is:

UNDER CONSTRUCTION!

Check back soon for up-to-date information!
Robin Horsleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01140254059358636351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1605211559263130372.post-45284864058537256902009-10-20T17:22:00.061+01:002010-10-14T20:52:12.618+01:00Buy Event TicketsTickets for all Curzon Supper Club events can be purchased securely online with any major Credit or Debit Card via Google Checkout, our payment provider.
